Report: Participation of Praborini Lactation Team in ASTOT 2025 Conference

Overview

The Praborini Lactation Team traveled from Jakarta to Melbourne from May 16 to 17, 2025, to participate in the ASTOT 2025 Conference organized by the Australasian Society for Tethered Oral Tissues (ASTOT). This prestigious event brought together international experts in the field of infant feeding, oral restrictions, and interdisciplinary care related to tongue tie and other tethered oral tissues.

The Praborini Lactation Team consisted of six pediatricians and three lactation consultants from Indonesia who are actively involved in clinical and community-based care related to tongue-tie and breastfeeding challenges. All members of the team were invited to be speakers at the conference, contributing original research, case reports, and clinical experience in the field.

About ASTOT

ASTOT (Australasian Society for Tethered Oral Tissues) is an international organization that focuses on education, clinical practice, and research on oral restrictions, especially tongue tie (ankyloglossia), across all age groups. The 2025 conference, themed “Collaborative Conversations: Tongue Tie and Other Oral Ties Across the Lifespan”, was attended by healthcare professionals from various disciplines including dentistry, medicine, lactation, speech pathology, and surgery.

In recognition of her ongoing contribution to the field, Dr. Asti Praborini, MDPaed, IBCLC, FABM, was officially appointed as a board member of ASTOT in 2024. She has since played an active role in international collaboration and development. Following this, she invited Dr. Agustina Santi, MDPaed, MSc, IBCLC to join the ASTOT board as well.

Through these contributions, the team helped raise awareness of Indonesia’s advancements in this important field.

By connecting with global experts and practitioners, the team strengthened their professional knowledge and helped elevate Indonesia’s voice in the global conversation about infant oral health. The recognition of Dr. Asti Praborini as an official ASTOT board member in 2024, followed by the invitation of Dr. Agustina Santi to join the board, further highlights Indonesia’s growing influence in the international healthcare community.

This experience will undoubtedly contribute to the ongoing development of best practices for managing tethered oral tissues and breastfeeding difficulties, benefiting healthcare providers and patients worldwide.
